DISTRIBUTION
Found in the North-east Atlantic from the North Sea to West Africa. Also present throughout the Mediterranean and Black Seas.
ECOLOGY
Pelagic species commonly found above 50 m of depth, forming large schools. It has been rarely been recorded down to 400 m. It feeds on planktonic organisms.
FISHERIES
Usually caught by pelagic trawlers and purse-seiners, including lampara nets, and beach seines.
