DISTRIBUTION
Found in the North-east Atlantic from the Barents Sea and southwards to West Africa, including the off-lying islands and the Mediterranean and Black Seas.
ECOLOGY
Benthic species mostly on sandy and muddy bottoms but also on shell and gravel areas, from shallow waters down to 550 m. Their diet consists mainly of fish.
FISHERIES
Caught mainly by demersal fisheries using otter trawls, beam trawls and gillnets.
