DISTRIBUTION

Distributed in the North-east Atlantic from Iceland and Norwegian coastal areas to North-west Africa. Also found in the Baltic, Mediterranean and Black Seas.

ECOLOGY

Present in marine and brackish waters in inshore shelf regions from 5-70 m depth. Lives on sandy or mixed bottoms. Its diet consists of bottom fishes and crustaceans.

FISHERIES

Mainly caught in beam and otter trawl fisheries, but also in fixed-net, beach seines and longlines fisheries.
