DISTRIBUTION

Distributed in the North-east Atlantic from Western Iberian Peninsula southwards to West Africa and throughout the Mediterranean Sea.

ECOLOGY

Present in depths of 20-700 m, but usually between 150 and 400 m. It inhabits muddy and sandy bottoms. Its diet consists of polychaetes, crustaceans and molluscs.

FISHERIES

Landings mainly originate from fisheries using bottom trawlers.

This species exhibits a size-related bathymetric distribution. Juveniles occur in shallow depths with larger specimens in deeper waters.
