DISTRIBUTION

Distributed in the North-east Atlantic from the coastal area of Norway to North-west Africa. Also found in the Mediterranean Sea.

ECOLOGY

Species found in the shallowest part of the littoral zone, from mid-shore to depths of around 25 m, burrowed in sandy sediments. They are filter feeding species.

FISHERIES

Landings mainly originate from boat and hand dredge fisheries.

These species have a size-related bathymetric distribution with larger individuals present nearer the low-water mark and younger ones highest on the shore.
