DISTRIBUTION
Found in the North-east Atlantic from Norway, Iceland and Greenland, and southwards to North-west Africa through the western coasts of the British Islands.
ECOLOGY
Deep sea species usually found in the depth range of 100-1200 m. Can be solitary or may form large schools. They feed on fish, crustaceans, and other invertebrates.
FISHERIES
Caught in mixed deep-water trawls, including bottom and mid-water trawls.
DID YOU KNOW
This species is believed to have a lifespan of up to seventy years, and only reaches sexual maturity at around ten years.
