DISTRIBUTION
Distributed throughout the North-east Atlantic, from the Norwegian Sea and Iceland down to West Africa. Also present in the Mediterranean and Black Seas.
ECOLOGY
Demersal species found from 30 m all the way down to 1000 m. Commonly found both alone on the bottom or in shoals in the water column. Feeds mainly on fish and cephalopods.
FISHERIES
Mainly caught by vessels using bottom trawls, gillnets and longlines.

Hake are opportunistic feeders occasionally showing cannibalistic behaviour by adult individuals on juveniles.
