DISTRIBUTION
Present in the North-east Atlantic ranging from Iceland and the Norwegian Sea and southwards to the Bay of Biscay. Also present in the southern Baltic Sea.
ECOLOGY
Benthopelagic species found in rocky areas from 40 to 200 m, either solitary or in small shoals. Its diet consists mostly of fish, cephalopods and crustaceans.
FISHERIES
Mainly taken using bottom and pelagic trawls, gillnets, longlines and seine nets.
DID YOU KNOW
Juveniles have been recorded making repetitive short grunts during competitive feeding and aggressive encounters.
