DISTRIBUTION
Present in the Eastern Atlantic from the coastal areas of Norway to North-west Africa. Also found in the Baltic Sea and Mediterranean Sea.
ECOLOGY
Bivalve molluscs present from the low tide mark to a depth of 40 m. It burrows to a depth of 5 cm in sandy and muddy bottoms. They are filter feeding species.
FISHERIES
Caught mainly in fisheries using bottom gears such as dredges.
DID YOU KNOW
The earliest records of pullet carpet shell fishing and consumption are from the 16th century although intensive fishing for these species began in the first quarter of last century.
