DISTRIBUTION
Found in North-east Atlantic from the Bay of Biscay down to North-west Africa, including the off-lying islands. Also present in the Mediterranean Sea.
ECOLOGY
Species inhabits sandy and muddy bottoms from shallow waters to down to 150 m, as well as seagrass beds. It feeds on small crustaceans, worms and molluscs.
FISHERIES
Landings mainly come from trammel and gill nets fisheries.

Juveniles are common in shallow waters above 10 m deep whilst adults inhabit deeper waters.
