DISTRIBUTION
Found in the North-east Atlantic ranging from the Norwegian Sea to West Africa, including the Canary Islands. Also found in the Mediterranean and Black Seas.
ECOLOGY
Demersal species found in shallow waters of rocky, sandy and muddy bottoms, although it can be found down to 100 m. It feeds on fish, crustaceans and cephalopods.
FISHERIES
Caught commonly by bottom and pelagic trawlers, fixed and drifted nets and lines. Majority found on sale are from aquaculture production.
