DISTRIBUTION

In the North-east Atlantic it spreads from the Norwegian Sea to southern waters. Also distributed across the Mediterranean Sea.

ECOLOGY

Epipelagic species usually residing from the surface to down to 150 m, although occasionally found closer inshore. It feeds mainly on fish and cephalopods.

FISHERIES

Targeted mainly in fisheries using pelagic longlines and gill nets.

DID YOU KNOW

Its gestation period takes more than one year, around 15-18 months.
