DISTRIBUTION

Found in the North-east Atlantic from the North Sea and waters of British Islands to West Africa. Also occurs in the South Baltic, Mediterranean and Black Seas.

ECOLOGY

Benthic species present in the depth range 0 to 150 m. They inhabit sandy and muddy bottoms. Adult diet consists of polychaetes, small crustaceans and molluscs.

FISHERIES

Mainly caught using beam trawl but also by otter trawls, gillnets and trammel nets.
